Lesson
(45min.) Decide with your class what fractions
they have the most trouble with. Let them be a part of the 3D printing of
this pie. Print enough fractions to make a whole pie. There will be many
lesson that this pie can be used for, like adding and subtracting. For this
lesson we will simply reteach what fractions are and how to add them. Go over
the vocab and review what each word means. Give each group a few mins to
practice with their flash cards. Then move on to the activity. When the
activity is over, in the last 5 mins of class do the Kahoot quiz. |

Activity: |
After the 3D Printer has printed the
Easy as Pie graph, each group of students will take turns getting to touch,
see, and play with it. This will give the students a hands on approach to not
only what the fractions look like, but also adding the fractions to make a
whole. While each group is looking over this eveyone needs to be wokring on a
fractions work sheet. Groups can colaborate and work together. Below you will
see the Answer Key to the worksheet. Make sure all students do a worksheet
and hand them in. Also below you will see the product the 3D printer will
make. |

At the end
of the lesson, as an Exit ticket, each student will get their I-pads and join
in on a Kahoot Quiz. This will show me what students retained from the lesson
and where I need to reteach. It also gives them a quick and simple refresher
of what they learned in the lesson. |

lesson. |

Fraction is usually a hard topic for kids I believe, but you put it in such way that it is fun, dynamic, and easy to learn. Good job on this Lesson Plan, you will be a great teacher!
ReplyDeleteGreat lesson plan Brandi! This is a fun way to learn about fractions. I really like your exit ticket. It is a great way to check for understanding. The 3D pie will be great hands on learning for your students.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great lesson! I agree with Katie as well, your exit ticket was awesome. Fractions are usually pretty hard for kids to learn but with the way you planned and presented your lesson plan, they will not have any trouble.
ReplyDeleteBell work is a great to start the class. Since you have them working in groups, this will allow them to discuss fractions together. If one student doesn't understand, maybe another student will be able to help them out. Having the 3D pie to go with the lesson will be a great manipulative to have for students to have better understanding about fractions. I also like ending lessons with exit tickets with Kahoot. It's a great way to make sure for student understanding.
ReplyDeleteGreat lesson. The bell work really caught my eye because you were the only one that included it into your lesson plan. The 3D pie is a great thing to have in the classroom to really make sure understanding would be effective. Great job
ReplyDeleteI am a substitute teacher so the fact that you broke your lesson plan down minute by minute really does help the substitute to know exactly how to navigate through the day. As a substitute I can truly appreciate this in a deeper way. There are so many different lesson plans we have to navigate through from classroom to classroom and the more detailed ones really make the days run more smoothly.
ReplyDeleteYour lesson plan is very easy to follow and organized. I like that you had bell work and then that you broke it up in times.
